Linden Herbal Tea — Tilo — is a caffeine-free infusion brewed from the dried flowers and bracts of the linden tree (Tilia). The cup pours pale gold with a soft floral honey aroma and a naturally sweet, mellow finish. It is the classic evening tea of Latin households, served when the day winds down.
How to Brew
Steep one bag in 8 oz of water at 200–212°F for 5 to 7 minutes, covered to hold the delicate floral oils. A teaspoon of honey rounds it out; lemon adds brightness without overpowering the flower.
When to Drink
Evening, after dinner, or any quiet moment of the day. Tilo is the go-to cup for a slow afternoon, a nightcap, or sipping while reading.
Good alongside a piece of toast with butter, a slice of pound cake, or simply on its own in a quiet kitchen.
Traditional Use
In Cuba, Argentina, Mexico, and across Latin America, té de tilo is the household tea poured in the evening and at the end of long days. Abuelas brew it for children before exams and for adults after work. The same flower has been steeped across Europe for centuries — tilleul in France, tiglio in Italy — usually after dinner with chocolate or a biscuit.
